# CardholderPresence

A model the API reference uses in a request or a response. The operation pages link every field typed as this model here.

How present the cardholder is at the point of sale, separate from the physical entry mode.
`EntryModes` describes hardware-level capture (swipe, chip, manual, etc.);
`CardholderPresence` is the ISO/network-level concept used to drive presence
indicators (e.g. TSYS `POSEnvironmentIndicator`, Visa/MC presence flags).

## Values

| Value | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `Unknown` | Presence not specified by the request. Handlers fall back to entry-mode and industry-type inference, then to the legacy default for the merchant's profile. |
| `CardPresent` | Cardholder physically present at the point of sale (retail/in-store flow). |
| `MOTO` | Mail-order / telephone-order: cardholder not present and the merchant captured the account number through a non-electronic channel (fax, phone, paper form). |
| `ECommerce` | E-commerce: cardholder not present and the transaction was originated through a website, mobile application, or other electronic channel. |
| `Recurring` | Recurring / subscription: cardholder is not contemporaneously present; the merchant is charging a stored credential against a prior cardholder authorization. |
