# RefundKind

A model the API reference uses in a request or a response. The operation pages link every field typed as this model here.

Classifies a refund transaction by its origin relative to a prior approved transaction.

## Values

| Value | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `None` | Not a refund, or kind has not been classified. Default for all non-refund transactions. |
| `Linked` | A refund run as a follow-up action against a previously approved and settled original transaction. The refund is a new transaction in its own right and flows through the normal auth + settlement pipeline, but carries a reference to its parent via OriginalTransaction and debits the parent's refund capacity. |
| `Unlinked` | A standalone refund with no parent transaction in the gateway. Submitted directly as a Return transaction without an OriginalTransaction reference. Flows through the normal auth + settlement pipeline with no capacity tracking against any prior transaction. |
